A Reminder That I Also Draw

Okay, so yesterday I decided to download a free version of Paint Tool SAI and have spent up until an hour ago today getting all the gunk including it off my laptop. In the process I had downloaded Paint.Net, a free art/photo-editing whatchamacallit that I had used before but it didn't do what I wanted. I ended up with the latest version and it did two things off the bat that pleased me:
  1. It actually worked with my drawing tablet.
  2. It had pressure detection and was no longer all pixely when I drew.

The only downside is that it doesn't have much aside from paintbrush, pencil, fill, and shapes and stuff. No biggie, really. The picture above is one of my friend's OCs, Rena (she doesn't always look like that, of course... long story) and is the first thing I drew in it. I'm still new to drawing with a tablet, so I'm not the best at it, but this is the first thing that came out mostly as I wanted it. It was fun to make too!
I may start posting more drawings and doodles as I practice with my tablet. Maybe even make it a daily thing when I get time off school, which will be soon. Christmas break is almost here!

On a Friend and an Art Thing

My friend is coming over in the immediate future!!!! I'm really excited! We've been talking about this for months now and it's finally happening and it's great and kinda unreal... And my birthday is in two weeks! So she'll probably get to stay for that. Which is brilliant!
I'm also halfway done with the background for that Art Thing I'm working on... Time-consuming but worth it... And I still have about three other things to get to after this.
I did this to myself.
I decided this was a good idea.
Sigh.
I'll get back to this when I get done... maybe.

Happy Late New Year and Even Later Christmas

So I've decided to play with the scanner again... hoping to actually have a bunch of art uploaded on here. I was then reminded of why I don't do that, for after having uploaded one picture, I realized the more detailed ones that I had not inked out and just went ahead and colored would not come out correctly. Our scanner is old. But! But, I do have stuff to show off....

Hang on... jeez, I just found this. Did this while I was messing around with my tablet... This is River Myst... I still can't draw his umbrella, darn it. And his hair's all wrong... but he's one of my original characters... of which I have a ton. I'll have to tell more about him later, he's not the only OC I've recently drawn...

This one, THIS one, took the longest. It's me, by the way. Did I mention I got my hair cut? The more cartoony one in the upper right corner may be replacing my current icon. It's my character  who's called (er, more codenamed) Tyger. She's from the same story as River. I've actually been staring at it so long nitpicking and recoloring it that I don't really have a solid opinion on it.... but I like it enough to post it. So there.
Okay, after a bit of fanagaling I was able to fit both of these on. His name's John Masque. Originally I had a cool sort of concept sheet thing because he has a bunch of little details that aren't quite illustrated here. I'll explain more about him in my next post maybe...

So I'll just wrap this up here. Happy holiday's, everyone. I'll update more frequently now... as a sort of New Year's resolution. Let's see how long that lasts.

Okay, I Need A Break From Tangent Adventure One...

I drew another thing on my tablet some time ago-ta da... I tried drawing Michelle Howe from Chell Howe and the Interdimensional Doctors and I'm not quite sure how much I like it. Well actually I kind of do, but I'm never particularly positive about these sort of things... Oh well! I might start drawing other story characters... Might... I should stop promising things.
Spam is still happening, and it's still mildly depressing. Though I figure it'll just keep happening as long as I'm posting as often as I'm posting. (It started when I began the 1-entry-a-day thing.) But that's not that important.
Absolutely nothing happened today. Again. Nothing at all. I drew in my notebook. Read some more of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Ended up working on a story I didn't need to work on instead of being productive. Came up with an idea for another one. Didn't start it for fear it'll end up either ruling my brain for the next couple of weeks or just become another title that sits in the My Documents folder, judging me. Sigh. Was alternatively bored, hungry,  bored, very hungry, guilty for not doing my own projects, and annoyed. Tried to look up Matilda on Netfix and it was unavailable. Stupid Netflix. Clicked on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends instead and wouldn't play. Screw you Netflix. Decided to write a blog entry.
And here we are.
I'm surprised I haven't been eaten by Boredom Monsters yet.

Tangent Adventure One: Flight the Second

Copper, Angel, and I from Lost Rabbit
This is what I did today! A slightly less crap drawing that led me to experiment further with layers and blurs. It isn't that detailed but I think it's nice. I really like my tablet.
I am also continuing the little story I started. The little tidbits are going to be called 'Flights.' I had a vague idea of how I was going to continue this. It's gone now, oh well. Let's see what happens...

The first thing I was aware of was sunlight, and for a moment or two I successfully entertained the idea that the ordeal had all been a dream. But unfamiliar voices and the musty smell of old carpet and other fabrics brought me slowly into the waking world, and I was gradually getting more and more alarmed. I make a sound as I sat up and looked around the treehouse that seemed to be made almost exclusively from junk. The windows were plastic instead of glass, the ceiling was a blue cover for something-probably a large car-and the floor was all different sorts of wood and plastic and stone all jammed together like a puzzle. I was lying on a nestlike bed of carpet, woven mats, and raggedy sheets with my robe draped over me like a blanket. I put it on and made my way tentatively to the curtained 'door' into the next room, and without warning it was swept to the side, and I was suddenly face to face with a very groggy Dave. I became angry very fast. He didn't seem to notice. "Oh... you're awake..." I scowled. "You!" I screeched dramatically. "You-kidnapped-me!" He looked up at the ceiling in a I-really-don't-need-this-right-now sort of way, which did nothing but make me angrier. "You knocked me out and kidnapped me!"
"Are we done stating the obvious?" He asked in exasperation. I ignored him. "I still have the bite mark! It still hurts! You..." I struggled to find a non-profantic derogatory scathing enough, failed and trudged on. "Who the heck do you think you are? We had an arrangement! Don't bother me, I don't bother you. We agreed. And what were you on about 'Time and Space?' Do I look stupid?"
"Yes." He replied with a poker-straight face. I think I inhaled most of the atmosphere at that.
"You worm!" I spat furiously. He stiffened. I had actually said something properly offensive. Go me. "T-take me home. Now." I said shakily. I suppose we made a silly picture, a small angry little girl who looked like she just rolled out of bed yelling at a ginormous lizard who actually looked pretty miffed at me right about now. We glared at each other for a second, before he grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and dragged me into the den. "Darwin! Deal with her-now!" Later I didn't blame him one bit. He was at that level of tiredness about the same as one that had been up until five in the morning, and he was being more civil than I would've been if a teenager had started screaming at me and calling me names. But this was now, and later was a couple of hours from then. Now I hated his guts.
I found myself face to face with a boy who seemed an odd mixture of Peter Pan, Tarzan, and the scientist from Journey to the Center of the Earth. He was wearing fairly dirty homemade clothes, and the bluest eyes ever and curly brown hair. He looked a little like my dad. Wait... no...
"Hey there, little sister."
"Monkey Boy?!" I shouted-screamed it, really. My Dad's tall tale, the one stupid running joke that he'd teased me with my whole childhood had a shred of truth to it? The one thing I solidly didn't believe was in the woods, even after Dave had snatched me up all those years ago and gave me the whole don't-bother-me-or-I'll-eat-you speech. He looked nowhere near as scary as I'd pictured him. Jeebus. He looked pained, and said he'd never thought he'd hear anyone call him that again. Dave burst out laughing. I frowned. "Wait... you're not old..." I said suspiciously. "You look about my age..."
"Well my dear, that's where Mythosfarieantology comes in," Said a third, older voice. "And a little of the study of Timespace Realitivity." I looked around wildly. "Oh what now?!" I moaned. Darwin rolled his eyes and pulled out a pair of weird, circular glasses with teal-colored glasses. "Here, I forgot your eyes haven't adjusted yet. You can keep those, we've got plenty." I examined them skeptically. "Put them on!" Ever curious, I did. They behaved normally at first, making everything look all green, but then everything felt all tingly and for a minute or two there was nothing but white, then everything went clear. Not just normal colors but like the first time I put on glasses. But sharper, better. "Whoa." I blinked. "Who in the worlds are you?"
"That's my teacher, Lily." Darwin said loftily. "Professor Farneer."
Okay, things are becoming clearer... not really. More will be elaborated on tomorrow, as well as what the l Mythosfarieantology is and why I couldn't see Prof. Farneer without special glasses. To be continued... tomorrow.
And there's Flight the Second of I'm Bored So I'm Off to Save the World. Otherwise known as Tangent Adventure One. More soon,

Everything Block

I think my brain is legitimately malfunctioning. I try to do something creative, but I keep running into invisible walls. 'I want to draw this!' Suddenly acutely aware of my artistic limitations. 'I want to write this thing!' *Sound of heart monitor flatlining* (That is what goes through my brain whenever I open Word Document nowadays.) And I keep getting ideas faster than I can expand on them. 'I have an Idea!' Poof. It's gone forever. Bleh. And considering the internet's been down for THE WHOLE WEEKEND you'd think I'd have done something productive.
I think I should google 'summer art classes nearby' or something, just so I have some incentive to interact with people and learn how to draw something besides people. (Like buildings or nature, part of my trouble now is my complete lack of knowledge in stuff like perspective or sketching trees that actually look like trees instead of that technique I learned in... what? Third grade? And being able to draw buildings that aren't just blocks with rectangles drawn on.) Something fun, like those arts and crafts things the library had when I was little(er). I liked those.
Oh, and I still need to read that book over the summer for creative writing class...
Bedtime now, Goodbye!

Paint.NET is Lame.

First of all, drawing on a computer is weird. Second of all, they decide to complicate it with Layers. Layers are things that are supposed to separate the background from the foreground, but all it does it occasionally give me crap and get in the way. Seeing as it had the potential to be immensely useful, I tried using it today.
After fiddling between two layers until it decided to show the two parts on top of each other at the same time, this piece of stupidity happened. I don't even know what's happening! It's just a poorly drawn... something. When I draw on paper this doesn't happen! Bad computer! Bad!

That is all.

Two in a Matter of Days!

New 'Lost Rabbit' chapter!
Okay. Yes it's short. Yes it took me forever. And yes, I will say more will be coming and it will most likely take longer than I say it will. Or shorter, since I'm already expecting to take awhile. Next chapter or so I'll be bringing me into it, so I might feel more involved. People, remind me: I could try scanning my drawing journal pages so I have some pictures on here again. (But that might be a bit difficult without my handy flashdrive.) And setting up polls are a pain I think I'll stop. Maybe find something new to put in that space, whatcha think? Oh god... that rhymed. Ugh.
I also hate Tumblr at the moment for compelling me to read ALL ONE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-SEVEN PAGES OF SOMEONE'S BLOG. It was very interesting, but god, it took me THREE DAYS. THREE DAYS! Whoever invented Tumblr is evil and amazing. And is also responsible for a temporary shortening of my attention span while Tumbling. Oh, and yay for three-day weekends!

Ugh. School Again.

But it's FRIIIIDAY! So it has advantages.
Not many though.
Happy January Third! This two-day week I discovered that I hate health class and Spanish is hard. Like genuinely difficult. I feel I shouldn't be surprised. Eh, whatever. So I discovered that if nothing happens I will most likely not write about anything. AND NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE. One would get bored very often here, and one does. Did I mention I have a doodle journal? It's been glued to my hand since I got it. That and my mechanical pencil. I get shockingly attached to my pencils. I can only use that one pencil. Until I lose it and spend a minute mourning my loss as I hunt around for a new pencil. I flipping love my sketch-journal. (doodle journal is too silly a title for my journal.) I can draw WHENEVER I WANT.
I am soooo tired and soooo bored. Think. Think. Think. Ugh. Nevermind, I'm off to do other things, Goodbye.

Doodle Page Game

This is a Doodle Page. You pick your two favorite color pens, a pencil, and an eraser and you draw random stuff. I started with a sloppy drawing of Nyan Cat. Then I drew a shockingly good drawing of American McGee's Cheshire Cat completely from memory and in pen. Not inked over, actually completely in pen. Pretty much half of it is all American McGee's Alice themed. And don't ask me what the fireman bird thing in the middle is, I have no idea. But I'm not going to explain every single thing of every single thing like: 'The flowers symbolize the regression of summer and blah, blah, blah.' Nobody has time for that. Actually, I do have time for that. I have a lot of time. LOTS. But I want to sit back and see what others think. Ohmigosh. I want to make this a bit of an activity. Pick your favorite colors, a sheet of paper, and draw whatever. Then post the results. It doesn't matter if you can't draw or whatever, you could just scribble and make                                                                                                                          it like an ink blot test.
This is so going to be put on Tumblr.
And I never post anything on Tumblr!

In The Margins

This is how I draw people in my school notebooks. They are usually really, really tiny. So this is me overlong bangs and green hoodie and all. I'm going to draw Rose (My sister.) next. Lately I've been doing a bunch of little thumbnail comics... hmm...
So today I was cleaning up my room-really an excuse to discover 2 Nick Magazines I didn't know I had, my Tetris Cube puzzle, and about 25 different writing utensils and a bunch of random junk papers from my old school. So after I put the pencils and pens where they 'belong'. (The general area where they are usually found.) I messed with the puzzle, because I am easily distracted. Sooo much more fun than a Rubik's cube... But I still can't fit the last awkward- as-all-heck piece. It was a nice surprise to find a mysterious orange shoe-box full of interesting objects.
Yes, this entire paragraph is filler because if it wasn't this would be empty white space an it would be boring.

Scribblings of Mine: Now With Pictures

Woo! I have finally successfully  scanned and uploaded a drawing without our legally-blind scanner ruining it. It took me foreeever. It's me, Rainy Rabbit, and Max fending off Boredom Monsters. It was also my first time coloring something on the computer. So many bright colors... And I still have to figure out shading.
About the 'creative' technology in our house: It gets sick enjoyment out of messing things up. I'll be all like 'this is a great picture! I should scan it onto the computer and share it with the world!' And my parent's computer and mentioned scanner is all like 'Nope let's be like that lady who messed with that Jesus painting and make the colors all horrible and crap.' And then I call mom and dad for help and we make all these revisions to it to make it show up better until it is damaged beyond repair and I give up. Dad is constantly talking about throwing all of it out the window.
But all things aside, I'm glad this one's finished. I'm learning to draw bigger, and to use a ruler. A lot. So much perspective in this picture.

In Which I Did Absolutely Nothing But Found Out A Bunch Of Stuff

I have made an important discovery over the last few days: My last post didn't seem to go through my mental filter. This is both good and bad. Bad because it leads to passing comments from my dad. (Embarrassing!) And good because this is probably the most extroverted thing I have ever done. I think I should do it more often.
Today I did a lot of drawing and didn't get one thing done. My desk is now full of half-finished drawings that I set aside for later when I started a new one. Most of them are about some of the little characters I made up. Like Rainy Rabbit, the Boredom Monsters, Max... I don't think I've mentioned Max.
I came up with Max a couple years back. If Rainy Rabbit and Bunny are the White Rabbit to my Wonderland, he'd be the Cheshire Cat. Of course this is a very loosely-based comparison. The fact remains that he is a winged talking cat with the power to turn into a winged talking tiger. So just forget what I said about the Cheshire Cat. I've also doodled a couple of muse fairies. Now if I could only finish something...
Completely off topic: A random thing that has annoyed me since I started is the fact that the 'Tabs' button makes the blinking line of writing stuff disappear and highlights 'Post Settings'. So I simply press the 'Space' button twelve times. Every time. Back to previous topic!
I think being able to write is awesome. But having some kind of thing for only writing half a story is a problem. I had an idea for a story once. I made up a couple characters and decided to give them a test run by writing a passage that I'd probably work into it somewhere. I ended up writing the rest of the thing from that point, so I had an ending and a good bit of the middle, but didn't have a start. Oh, the irony. And if I start doing the same thing with drawing... I'm going to be... really annoyed.
But enough acting like I have no control over that aspect of my life. I should be thinking about school. Rude awakening from Mom today: I think I go back in, like, a week. Nooo!

Boredom

Here's a little story about something that happened this summer:
One day, a very extremely bored me was browsing the internet.
She was so bored she actually Googled 'Boredom'. It did not solve her
problem. Suddenly, she did something amazing. Something nobody ever
even considers doing in the history of today's internet.
She exited out, shut down her computer, and grabbed a piece of
paper and pencil. She drew something random, a cute little animal that
looked positively harmless. Right away she decided it must be evil and
deadly. It should be different shades of beige. She thought, drawing
an arrow pointing to it. And be really agile. At the end of the arrow she
wrote: Boredom Monster! >:(
She shivered in anticipation as her imagination began to formulate
exactly what a Boredom Monster was. Like boredom, it leeched all the
energy and emotions out of you. It's insides were old bits of doll parts and
ruin. (I had Alice: Madness Returns on the brain.) I also knew I couldn't lay
a finger on something that cute. (Which is why I made it an evil manifestation
of my boredom. Boredom is very hard to get rid of, if it was something ugly,
I would be able to get rid of it real fast. It's the ultimate weapon! It'd be a
shame not to take advantage of it.)
She drew some more, and daydreamed that she battled with the
Boredom Monsters, lost that, was for some reason still alive due to the
intervention of her worst enemy. (who turned out to be a totally different
person. But still her worst enemy.) Who told her that the Boredom Monsters
were her own creation. He (the worst enemy) goes off to do his own thing to
stop them, and tries to keep her away so she doesn't do any more damage.
He fails miserably at both. In the end, she has to rescue him and she saves the world.
With the power of imagination! As you can imagine, I wasn't bored anymore after that. I was so bored right now that I figured I'd bring up this. Funny how when you pour the raw contents of your mind onto something it seems so much weirder. My dad tells me: Stupid people get bored. I say: Stupid people get bored and don't resolve it. Not to his face though... because I just thought of it now. Darn. That statement has always annoyed me, usually because he says it right after I forget myself and mention my boredom. NEVER TELL A GROWNUP THAT YOU'RE BORED! They either say something scathing, or they give you work. Work is dull. If boredom is thirst, entertainment is water, and work is saltwater. You're doing something, but it's not any less boring. *Rants about it some more inside head* Bye.

Art and Me

Yay! People are looking at my stuff! Cool. I've been wanting to mention this artist called JellyVampire on Deviant Art who made this really inspiring comic called 'Like an Artist'.(Link Here)
It's pretty popular. It's about a girl named Ida and how she becomes an artist, taking advice from an animal that's the personification of her artist soul. It got me back into drawing, which I had been shying away from lately, becoming more inclined towards writing. Sometimes it occurs to me how much I really, really need to improve on both. I am envious of doodles. Such small things that turn into big awesome things that make you kinda wish you didn't draw it on the back of your science quiz. I've also created many Woodles (Word Doodles) of little flights of fancy I continue till the muse fairy and/or plot bunny and/or idea dies. But unlike Doodles you can't stop whenever you want, so basically they're just unfinished weirdness that I look back and wonder why in the wide world web did I start it.
T.Y.G.E.R.

{I do think the word I was looking for was 'plot bunny' but it's just not my kind of phrase. Muse fairy. Sounds nice enough. I'm sticking with that. :)}
